Dear All,

Linguistics has been selected as one of six departments for a pilot project
for H&S Desktop Computer Support.  Our support team consists of 3 people:
Jay Stamps, Greg Smith and Tony Hom.  They are providing the support to the
six participating departments.  Jay Stamps will be holding office hours in
the department on Thursday afternoons, generally from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Trudy is our departmental liaison/local contact for computer problems.  You
should see that a sticker has been placed on each computer indicating "For
Help with Your Desktop Computer" you should contact 1. Trudy, and 2. the
H&S Support Center.  Trudy should be contacted directly for non-urgent
problems and can bring these to the attention of the Support Team.  Emails
work best as this makes it easier to log in, keep on file, and to forward
to the Support Team as necessary.  If something is very urgent or
particularly technical, you should call and/or email the H&S Desktop
Support Center, but be sure to cc: Trudy on your email.  Since this is a
pilot project at the moment, H&S is very interested that logs be kept about
what types of problems are experienced, the response time, and the
resolution of those problems. And, the Dept., via Trudy, needs to be kept
aware of what goes on as well.

The Desktop Support Center staff will help with:

Troubleshooting computer problems (diagnostics)
Setting up new computers
Moving and changing existing computers
Software support of PC-Stanford and MacStanford, e.g.
	-Samson-for-Windows/MacSamson
	-Eudora Pro
	-Netscape
	-VirusScan
	-File Transfer (using WS_FTP and Fetch)
	-MacLeland/PC-Leland
Best efforts on Microsoft Office basic functions
Printing, print problems
Data recovery
Crashed hard disks, lost software
General advice

The Desktop Support Center staff does NOT help with:

Servers
Calendaring software
